6 Millions Years of History
These amazing animals have an incredible history spanning up to 6 million years across Europe and the Northern hemisphere, many of which have been part of semi-domesticated herds working alongside humans for 1000’s of years. They are like a ‘man’s best friend’ for some northern cultures and it’s not hard to see why… Domesticated reindeer can be very inquisitive, friendly and always absolutely beautiful and are still used today to pull sleighs in some regions. They are perfectly adapted for their environment able to handle sun kissed summer days and harshest of winters down to -40c. Over the seasons they transform their coats, drop and regrow their antlers, change their eye colour and can even regulate their own body temperature.

Did Your Know?
- The UK used to be home to reindeer for 100’s of thousands of years, before numbers diminished due to human hunting and forest clearing and climate factors. They were reintroduced back to the UK in 1952 and are now thriving back on their native soil.
- Reindeer can run up to 45mph! Even a one day old baby reindeer can outrun a man
- Reindeer can jump 6ft high… from a standstill
- They are also great swimmers
- They are the only deer species where both male and female grow antlers.
- Reindeer shed their antlers and regrow them every year. It is the fastest growing bone in the animal kingdom growing up to an inch a day!
- Reindeer can see in the dark, their eyes change colour from gold in summer to blue in winter to help them see better in low light
- Reindeer have a strong sense of smell, they can smell lichen (moss) through up to 60cm of snow!
- Click, Click, Click. Reindeer feet click as they walk, perfect for hearing the rest of the herd in a reduced visibility like a snow blizzard.
You can learn more about these amazing animals at our Reindeer education area in Antler’s Croft Reindeer Stables on site.
Our reindeer herds live with us all year round at our stunning 50-acre reindeer park set in beautiful welsh border countryside, complete with mixed woodland and grazing paddocks, hills, lakes and freshwater springs. Our high valley walls also help reduce winter sunlight hours and we enjoy temperatures and weather conditions likened to somewhere further North, creating the perfect environment for our herd to thrive and enjoy long, healthy and fulfilled lives.
Our care and knowledge of our reindeer is second to none with over a decade’s experience looking after these amazing animals. Our reindeer originate from domesticated herds and we’ve had the pleasure of seeing our own herds thrive with over 4 generations of UK born reindeer now living with us.
We are fully compliant with all animal display, transport and care regulations and have been Animal Health and RSPCA inspected as well as visited by many Town Councils that have peace of mind in using our reindeer for their displays.
We are inspected and legally licensed for displays in England and Wales under Animal Activity License number: 25/12645/ANPERF
We are also inspected and registered in Wales under Flintshire County Council Animal Registration: PAR019 T. Brisbourne – Willow Brook Reindeer
